Trekking to Adi Kailash and Om Parvat:

The Mt. Adi Kailash, popularly known as Chhota Kailash is situated in the district of Dharchula under the state of Uttaranchal, India. Mt. Adi Kailash and Om Parvat both are adjacent to the Tibet border.

 Demographic Data:

Mt. Adi Kailash (Chhota Kailash):

Longitude: 80°42'03.01"E, Latiude: 30°12'27.35"N

District:Pithoragargh, Nearest City and Sub-division: Dharchula,

State: Uttaranchal, Nation: India.

We took part in the trekking/hiking expedition in the year June'2010.

Reaching Dharchula by bus from Tanakpur, on 04-06-10 we met with
Ratan (Our Guide) who made lodging arrangement for us in the hotel Shivam.

Next Day (04-06-10): Here in Dharchula we have to collect our necessary permission as all the way, there are several camps of ITBP (Indo Tibetian Border Police). Permission is given by SDM ( Sub Divisional Magistrate). It is recommended by us to keep one day extra here to obtain permission and pony and porters for trekking. However we started our journey to Gala in the afternoon after obtaining necessary permission.  Please keep your EPIC (Electoral Photo Identity Card) if you are an Indian national. We reached Pangla in the evening. We could not go further, because of transportation problem. As there was a road accident before some short of Pangla, vehicles were not available to reach Gala. So we stayed at Pangla for the day. We accomodate us in the bunglow of KMVN. Now we are out of mobile communication.

Day 2 (05-06-2010): We started late due to some problem with our guide and porters. After load distribution and packing we started at 9.00 am  (IST). Up to Gala we traveled in a four wheeler (Mahindra Scorpio). The trekking (hiking) now starts from Gala. Here accommodation is good. The  pilgrims of "Manas Kailash Yatra" stayes here in the bungalows of KMVN in Gala instead of Pangla. It takes half an hour to reach Gala from  Pangla. Ruck sacks are now in our back and we started for our most wanted. We had taken some tea in Gala.Mangti is the first ITBP camp we found. Here phone facility is available for all trekkers (hikers) and villagers also. In spite of satellite communication  rate (Rs. 2.00 per minute) of inland phone call is reasonable. In the way we take some tea after Jipti and feel some refresh. Now the famous 4444  nos of staircase starts. Very very steep down. The staircase ends at Lakhan pool (Laxman Pool) where a small food shop is available during the  time of yatra. Chowmin,Maggi,Rice, hand made bread are availble. Price not so much Lunch Rs.30.00 per plate. Taking some food we started  towards Malpa at 3.00 pm. When we reached Malpa it was then 6.00 pm and suddenly rain starts. We found P.W.D. bunglow for the day of staying.

Mt._Om_ParvatDay 3 (06-06-2010):  After some break fast and tea we started from Malpa at 9:00 am. Though Joy Shing supplied us bed tea at 6:00 am, we failed to start earlier. On the way we take tea further at Chankan on 11:45 am and reached Lamori at 1:00 am. A post of SSB is here. We take  our lunch here (Rs. 30.00 per plate). Started from Lamori at 1.45 p.m and reached Buddi at 4.30 p.m. Our today's destination. Bunglow of KMVN  is pretty nice. They supply blankets. Slightly expensive. But not too much as compared to comfort.Buddi is a land of general klima. Climate here is  very nice.Mountains of Nepal is being seen from here. We saw some tents of "Kira" collectors in the verge of mountains of Nepal side. You can see a snow peak also here in the Nepal side called "Namjung". A local people called that.

Day 4 (07-06-2010): Allthoug we wanted to start early. We started at 7.30 am. We have to cross "Chhiya lekh" top today at the begining of day's trekking. Distance is about 3.5 k.m. But the way is very very steep. Takes approximatly two and half hours to reach "Chhiya Lekh" top. The top is a valley of flower. In the monsoon season it dresses up with variety of flowers. A small tea stall is here. We take some tea and breakfast. At 11.30  a.m. we restarted from Chhiyalekh. Again you will find a SSB check post here in Chiyalekh. Register your details here in the check post and  goforward. Now the way is simple, soiled and slightly down. Before you reach "Garbiyang" a land slide zone falls in the way. Crossing it you will  reach "Garbiyang". We reached Garbiyang at 2.00 p.m. Joy and Ranajit da reached earlier and ordered some food for us. As we reached  Garbiyang heavy rain starts. So we stopped our journey and decides to stay here. Not so many trekkers stay at Garbiyang now. This is the place land slide. One upon a time the full village was gone down in a severe land slide. You can see the ruined houses. Now a days Kira collectors only stay here. Only a community latrine facility is here to use for you. Rain water was sinking from roof due to heavy rain. Fodding and lodging is very cheap here.
